Assistant Director of Quality, Resources, Transformation and Integration

Since our creation on 1 April 2023 we have worked hard to create the culture, systems, processes and strong partnerships that we need to deliver on our vision -

'People living in a place they call home with the people and things that they love, in communities where they look out for one another, doing the things that matter to them'.

Our social care agenda is built on strong foundations and principles of promoting the independence and wellbeing of people with social care needs, alongside upholding human rights, building relationships, and developing strengths.

We are proud of our workforce and their commitment, creativity, and resilience.

We are ambitious about our practice and want people to feel valued, be heard, and see their wishes and hopes reflected in the support we provide.

We know that there are areas we need to work on, and we are committed to creating a culture that enables reflection, positive risk-taking, and person-centred outcomes. Our co-production work continues to challenge us to re-think approaches and amplify thevoices of lived experience.

I look forward to working together on our journey of continued improvement enriching the experience and lives of the people we support - putting independence and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

Our journey

Our ambition for Adult Social Care centres around our Promoting Independence and Wellbeing Programme. The programme is working towards twelve pillars of improvement, which include some fundamental improvements in data and case recording, performance management, quality and practice. We also have work underway to deliver workforce development which will improve our recruitment and retention of our staff, and pursue collaboration with our health partners and care providers.

Building on these fundamentals is the improvement of our in-house and commissioned services through enhanced design and delivery, driven by co-production and informed by our data. We must ensure that our change aligns with Westmorland and Furness Council's ambitions to build strong communities that support each other and enables us to prevent, reduce and delay people’s path to social care.

Our area

By area, Westmorland and Furness is the third largest unitary local authority area in England and the most sparsely populated. It is home to some of the country’s most stunning landscapes and its most hi-tech businesses. On our coast is Barrow-in-Furness, a busy shipbuilding town and port with cutting edge sub-sea technology industries, while inland South Lakeland and Eden have a rural, land-based economy with a strong visitor and cultural economy.
